PBs, the 1 in 20 and the joy of progress

All of us cyclists are on our own journey through the sport and we’re all motivated by different things. For me, a big driver is the desire to improve, to get fitter, stronger and faster. A good hard go at the local benchmark climb, the 1 in 20, gives me a chance to see where I’m at and as I was reminded a week or two ago, setting a new best time is always a tremendous feeling.

Mountain biking at Mt. Buller and Mt. Stirling

The day after our Domestique 7 Peaks Ride at Mt. Buller, I headed out onto the famous MTB trails in the surrounding hills. My destination was the nearby peak of Mt. Stirling and while the mountain was only 10km away in a straight line, it was no mean feat to get there.

For the final Domestique 7 Peaks Ride of the summer, the crew headed out to the glorious Mt. Buller climb roughly three hours north-east of Melbourne. Several hundred riders took on the 16km ascent to the alpine resort on what was a beautifully warm autumn day.

The Domestique 7 Peaks Rides headed out to West Gippsland on Sunday to tackle one of Australia’s most feared climbs: Mt. Baw Baw. Several hundred riders came along, most of them doing Baw Baw for the first time. It was another stellar day climbing mountains with great people.
