Clearing out the cobwebs

It's been a long time since my last post so I thought I'd take the time to write about why things have been so quiet, what's been going on, and what's coming up. Read more “Clearing out the cobwebs”

What it’s like to cover the Tour de France

I've had a couple of people ask me to write about what it's like to cover the Tour de France. Here then are some observations from my time at the 2015 Tour, with a selection of photos I took along the way. Read more “What it’s like to cover the Tour de France”

Introducing The Climbing Cyclist Wiki

It's been nearly five years since The Climbing Cyclist first began. It was created as a resource for cyclists that like riding uphill, but that resource hasn't grown as much as I would have liked. With The Climbing Cyclist Wiki, that's all about to change. Read more “Introducing The Climbing Cyclist Wiki”

New climb guide: Wild Dog Creek Road/Busty Road

The site has been updated with a new climb: the beautiful and at-times challenging Wild Dog Creek Road/Busty Road climb in Victoria's south west. Read more “New climb guide: Wild Dog Creek Road/Busty Road”

New climb added to the site: Perrins Creek Road

The Perrins Creek Road climb is one of the most popular climbs in the Dandenongs, and with good reason: it's wonderfully scenic. It's also deceptively challenging, despite an average gradient of less than 7%. Here's a full climb guide. Read more “New climb added to the site: Perrins Creek Road”

New climb added to the site: Mt. William

Mt. William is the highest point in the Grampians National Park and with a brutally tough 1.9km section just before the summit it's not a climb to be taken lightly. But the amazing views throughout, and particularly near the top, make this climb more than worth the effort. Read more “New climb added to the site: Mt. William”

New climb guide: Myrtleford-Stanley Road

The Myrtleford-Stanley Road climb is 10.7km long with an average gradient of 4.7% but a tough middle section makes the climb more challenging than those numbers would suggest. Click through for the full climb guide. Read more “New climb guide: Myrtleford-Stanley Road”

Introducing the Climbing Cyclist forums

Several people have suggested that The Climbing Cyclist might benefit from a forum section where people can ask and answer questions for one another, organise rides and so on. The forums are now live -- let us know what you think! Read more “Introducing the Climbing Cyclist forums”

Finding all the sealed climbs in Victoria

Over the past year David Blom has been working to put together a list that features the vast majority, if not all of the sealed cycling climbs in Victoria with an elevation gain of more than 80 metres. Now, that list is a Google Map with more than 800 pins on it and David has written a post about the process of collating the list. Read more “Finding all the sealed climbs in Victoria”

New climb added to the site: One Tree Hill (Ararat)

The One Tree Hill climb in Ararat is a little shorter than I'd normally post to the site, but with an average gradient of roughly 10%, it's a tough little climb that's more than deserving of a spot here. Read more “New climb added to the site: One Tree Hill (Ararat)”

After Le Tour: looking back and looking forward

It's been a week and a half since I got home from the Tour de France and I'm still recovering. But it's good to be back and good to be back on the bike, even if it is about 15 degrees cooler than I would have liked. Read more “After Le Tour: looking back and looking forward”
